Lodge Chaplain
The Chaplain serves as the spiritual guide of an Elks Lodge, offering invocations and leading members in reflection on the higher purposes of the Order. This position brings reverence and solemnity to Lodge proceedings and commemorative occasions.
Key Responsibilities
According to Section 12.100 of the Grand Lodge Statutes, the Chaplain and Inner Guard:
Perform duties required by the Laws of the Order
Execute responsibilities outlined in the Lodge By-Laws
Fulfill ritual duties as prescribed
Leadership
The position of Chaplain fosters leadership through spiritual guidance and empathetic service. This appointive role develops the officer's ability to provide comfort during times of celebration and sorrow, building interpersonal skills valuable in any leadership position. Chaplains often develop a deeper connection to the philosophical foundations of Elkdom that enriches their future service in other capacities.
