All American Lodge Contest

Information about the national Fraternal Committee's most prestigous contest.

Handles patriotic activities, Flag Day and Memorial Day services, candidate orientation, membership investigation, dues collection, and promotes Lodge activities and ENF programs (G.L.S. 13.022).

Key Responsibilities

According to Section 13.022 of the Grand Lodge Statutes, the Fraternal Committee:

  • Implements patriotic activities planned by Grand Lodge and cooperates with local organizations

  • Prepares and conducts Flag Day services as required by Section 2.030

  • Conducts indoctrination programs for candidates and their families prior to initiation

  • Investigates character of all applicants and personally interviews them

  • Secures membership applications and promotes reinstatement of lapsed Members

  • Arranges observance of Elks Memorial Day as required by Section 2.020

  • Publicizes the Elks National Foundation and promotes its programs

  • Implements the Elks National Veterans Service Commission program within the Lodge

The Fraternal Committee serves as the guardian of Lodge traditions and membership quality, ensuring proper candidate screening and maintaining the patriotic and memorial observances that define the Order's character.

Leadership

This position provides comprehensive leadership development through coordinating multiple related subcommittees and specialized functions. As a statutory committee mandated by Grand Lodge Statutes, this position often oversees several subsidiary committees and working groups, requiring strong organizational and delegation skills. The Chair's responsibility for implementing Grand Lodge, State Association, and Lodge-level programs develops strategic thinking and multi-level coordination abilities. This role serves as excellent preparation for future service as a Lodge officer, providing experience in budget management, program oversight, and member motivation essential for executive positions.
