The Esteemed Loyal Knight serves as the third-ranking officer in an Elks Lodge, following the Exalted Ruler and the Esteemed Leading Knight. This position carries specific duties and plays an important role in Lodge leadership and succession planning.

Key Responsibilities

According to Section 12.040 of the Grand Lodge Statutes, the Esteemed Loyal Knight:

  • Assists the Exalted Ruler in performing their duties

  • Officiates for the Exalted Ruler in their absence, when the Leading Knight is also absent

  • Is invested with the Exalted Ruler's powers and prerogatives when acting in that capacity

  • Performs other duties required by the Laws of the Order and Lodge By-Laws

Leadership

The position of Loyal Knight represents the third step in the traditional progressive line of officers. This system provides valuable leadership experience as officers advance through the chairs, ideally preparing them for eventual service as Exalted Ruler.
