Ritual of Local Lodges

Meeting and Initiation rituals for lodge meetings.

The Inner Guard serves as the interior sentinel of the Lodge room, controlling access from within and assisting in maintaining the security of meetings. This position works in harmony with the Tiler to ensure only qualified members participate in Lodge proceedings.

Key Responsibilities

According to Section 12.100 of the Grand Lodge Statutes, the Chaplain and Inner Guard:

  • Perform duties required by the Laws of the Order

  • Execute responsibilities outlined in the Lodge By-Laws

  • Fulfill ritual duties as prescribed

Leadership

The position of Inner Guard builds leadership skills through attentiveness and procedural compliance. This appointive office provides an excellent introduction to Lodge operations for newer members, teaching them protocol and meeting flow while giving them visible responsibility. Many future Lodge leaders begin their service journey as Inner Guard, learning valuable lessons about Lodge security and membership verification.
