Ritual of Local Lodges

Meeting and Initiation rituals for lodge meetings.

The Tiler serves as the guardian of the Lodge entrance, controlling access and ensuring the privacy of Lodge proceedings. This position combines security responsibilities with the care and maintenance of Lodge property and regalia.

Key Responsibilities

According to Section 12.080 of the Grand Lodge Statutes, the Tiler:

  • Attends the outer door of the Lodge at all meetings

  • Permits no person to enter without proper identification

  • Requires all Members to show membership cards

  • Requires visiting Members to register

  • Remains at his station until the close of all meetings

  • Takes charge of Lodge jewels, regalia, and property

  • Ensures property is safely stored

Leadership

The position of Tiler offers leadership development through demonstrated reliability and attention to detail. While not in the progressive line, the Tiler often builds respect through consistent service that may lead to future opportunities in other Lodge positions. The role teaches valuable lessons in Lodge security protocols and membership verification procedures.
